A lobated Green Man mask medallion. Medieval carvings of the Green Man took many forms, naturalistic or decorative. The simplest depict a man's face peering out of dense foliage. Commonly used as a decorative architectural ornament, Green Men, though they harkened pagan vegetal deities, were frequently found in both secular and ecclesiastical carvings.
