The hilt struck with Paris silver hallmark for 1770 and the charge mark of Julien Alaterre.

The two portrait busts on the pommel likely represent King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. One of the four portraits on the shell appears to be Henri IV and the two more, crowned with laurels, may represent Roman Emperors.
