Inscribed:
Blade bears the inscription ‘SIGVINIS'

Two swords which compare closely with the present hilt were found in the Thames at Shifford and in the river Witham near Lincoln; they are today in the Reading Museum and British Museum (1848,1021.1) respectively. Another found in the Thames at Vauxhall is now in the Museum of London (A 2373). A Viking hilt similarly damascened is in the Schweizerischen Landesmuseumin, Zurich (LM 860)
