There is an interesting circular mark upon both sides of this sword's tang, which may have been a cutler’s mark, placed by the craftsman who fitted the hilt to the blade.
These marks may be seen in various forms on similar swords, a good example being on a sword in the Royal Armouries, Leeds (Acc. No. IX.915), which consists of a series of deeply-incised parallel lines.
