Item ref: 3853
Private collection, France
Plaques of this highly decorative type were popularly displayed in the residences of the aristocracy and notables among the city and landed burghers, recording the union of two families by marriage. The present example is typical of the fashion within the German-speaking lands in the mid-18th century and is preserved in exceptionally fine condition.
The identification of the two coats-of-arms and of the two sets of the owners’ initials are the subject of continued research.
