This fine and well-detailed French prisoner of war bone model of a 1st Rate mounted on a decorated bone base has a hull with fine and detailed carving and is armed with a main armament of a 100 guns on 3 decks. The figurehead is of a warrior and the deck fittings include companion way, gratings, bound masts, galley chimney, 3 well-detailed longboats. The White Ensign is of the period 1606-1800. The stern is of particular interest, as a very similar stern is illustrated on page 86 in the book ‘Prisoner of War ship models 1775-1825’ by Ewart C. Freestone.
